How To Upgrade A PS3 Hard Drive by MK (A*): 10-07-2008 12:43:18

1: Buy the SATA 500GB Hard Disk Drive

2: Format the drive to a single FAT32 partition

3: Backup your PS3 data to a USB dongle

4: Disconnect the power on the PS3 console and earth yourself with an anti-static lead. Open the console's disk drive cover (located on the side)

5: Unscrew the blue cross type screws, lever out the metal hinge and slide the hard disk tray out

6: Unscrew the four screws to detach the PS3’s hard disk, place on an anti-static surface

7: Fit the upgraded 500GB hard disk into the tray ensuring and screws are fitted correctly, power on the PS3

8: Take the dog out for a walk during the waiting period

9: Transfer you data back across

10: Commence downloading even more PS3 games

On my PS3 you're are able to format a new hard drive from the console after fitting it all up during your step 8/10.
