Play TV - does it upscale to 1080p via PS3 or not? by Nutty: 12-01-2009 23:16:23

Contemplating my first PS3 80GB (or 160GB if I can find one!). Can anyone tell me if the new PlayTV upscales imgaes to 1080p? There are so many basicPVR's that now have upscale to 1080p come as automatic with the PVR, (plus proper twin tuners - i.e. can record 2 channels simultaneously plus watch a recording simultaneously), that it's really difficult to get confirmed whether PlayTV upscales. I have 46'' LCD TV and already own a TVonics twin tuner HD PVR but mine doesn't upscale! I'd really appreciate a very definitive evidence-based answer on this one! Please help me all you lovely techies out there!
Love Nutty xx

PlayTv does not support HD Broadcast (as of the first model)
Upscaling cannot create what is not there to begin with. PlayTv doesn't upscale. Interlacing is common technique for upconverting, the disadvantage is the loss of quality for the sake of a bigger frame. Another common misunderstanding is that PS3 can upscale DVD to HD which is not true – the console cannot create what is not there. Downscale YES, upscale No. I haven't purchased PlayTv for the want of another PVR so I'm interested in more responses. In particular from PlayTV owners. PlayTv for PS3

yes ps3 slim can upscale. its a great at making DVDs fill the whole screen width of the TV, up scaling via software not hardware. Providing the DVDs is good quality it is better
